Florian Gallenberger’s latest film is based on a true story and follows the journey of Daniel (played by Brühl) and Lena (played by Watson) who find themselves caught up in the Chilean military coup of 1973. After Daniel is taken by General Pinochet’s secret police, Lena discovers he is being held in Colonia Dignidad, a supposedly charitable mission led by Paul Schäfer. However, the truth about the cult is far more sinister as no one has ever escaped from it. In a desperate attempt to save her partner, Lena infiltrates the cult and becomes a member herself. The movie premiere coincides with several celebrities, such as Watson and Cumberbatch, visiting an Oxford college as part of their fellowship.

The atmosphere was jovial as Brühl, Watson, and Florian Gallenberger, the Academy Award-winning director of Colonia, attended the event. Lady Margaret Hall recently revealed a diverse group of appointments that included Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys. The principal, Alan Rusbridger, who previously served as editor-in-chief of the Guardian, stated that the 11-person team would help students connect with different perspectives. The positions are part-time, and those involved are welcome to stop by for meals and casual meetings.
On the red carpet, the outfits of the lead actors provided a striking contrast in black and white. Additionally, they will be required to participate in a structured activity such as a debate, performance, or seminar. Other notable individuals appointed include Malorie Blackman, former children’s laureate, Francis Habgood, chief constable of Thames Valley police, Beeban Kidron, director, Mark Simpson, musician, and Rabinder Singh, high court judge. As mentioned in Mr Rusbridger’s blog, they come from diverse backgrounds and professions and will serve as a connection between the academic community and the worlds they represent.

The college governing body created a list of potential visiting fellows, which was then narrowed down by a committee. All but one of the selected candidates accepted the positions. The college welcomes them to come and stay temporarily if they require a place to work or think. Mr Cumberbatch holds a BA in drama from Manchester University and an MA in classical acting, while Miss Watson has a degree from Brown University. Although visiting fellowships are typically awarded to academics and scholars, only one of the new visiting fellows, Jennifer Rohn, is an academic – a cell biologist at University College London. Mr Rusbridger believes that they may learn a great deal from some of these newly announced fellows, even those who did not go to university or left school at 16. They hope that these individuals will appreciate their time with the university.
The main characters of Colonia, Emma and Daniel, are caught up in a romantic relationship on the big screen.
